I wish to heartily recommend Phillip Gowins' book on Sufism. Phillip gives a very compelling presentation to the teachings of his teacher (and mine) Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, based on the teachings of Pir Vilayat's father, Hazrat Inayat Khan, certainly one of the most important religious thinkers of the 20th century. Perhaps the greatest virture of this book is the simple, clear and charming style in which it is written. Phillip avoids entirely getting involved in historical questions and exotic terminology, and offers instead a direct entrance into the mystical training of which Sufis have been renowned masters for many centuries. This is indeed practical Sufism, practical mysticism, for all.
