There is an ancient and rich tradition of Contemplative prayer within Christianity. The widely practiced Centering Prayer of today follows in this tradition. It is a meditative process that involves quieting the mind, stilling the ego, and opening ourselves to the darkness and silence so that we may experience the God within. Thomas Merton said of this, “At the center of our being is a point of nothingness which is untouched by sin and illusion, a point of truth....” 2012.
