This talk was recorded at a meditation retreat in which Maria Parisen explores the meaning of the spiritual life in a number of ways. First, what is spirituality and how does it relate to religions? Can spirituality be defined by words? What is required of us to live a spiritual life? The speaker says that the spiritual life may bring rare moments of intense illumination when we realize that we are not alone in the universe. Our apparent boundaries begin to melt as we sense that we are more than this finite physical body. Compassion and empathy are qualities that enable us to have a deeper connection with other forms of life. The speaker also talks about the path of the heart and how the heart is considered the center of spiritual consciousness. Service to others is a natural outflow of deeper spiritual realization. 2001. 59 minutes.
