Life has many ups and downs and most of us experience physical and mental suffering at various times. Why is there so much suffering? What is its cause? Why do good people suffer? Can we put an end to sorrow? These and other related questions have been asked throughout human history, and religions and philosophies have tried to answer them from various perspectives. The Theosophical tradition has an evolutionary outlook in which opposites such as good and evil, pleasure and pain, and life and death are all working for a divine purpose.
