Many of us are experiencing feelings of anxiety and fear during these unprecedented times and are struggling with the uncertainty of the constantly changing situation. While it is perfectly normal to feel this way, with effort we can cultivate a healthier and more productive response. Buddhism teaches us that anxiety and worry are negative emotions that hinder our ability to live responsible and caring lives. That a human being can be free of such negative emotions is central to the Buddha’s teaching. However, only when we clearly understand the nature of the human condition, and come to terms with this reality, can we begin to free ourselves. This is our potential and our challenge. 2020.
