This program offers information on the symbolic and meditative uses of labyrinths. It focuses on two designs in particular, the well-known 11-circuit design laid in the floor of the Chartres Cathedral in France, and the more ancient 7-circuit Cretan design. A Cretan style labyrinth was constructed on the grounds of the Theosophical Society in America and is open to the public. It has seven circuits, seven passageways around the center. The speaker believes that they correspond to the seven sacred planets and illustrates this correspondence using writings from H. P. Blavatsky. This talk was delivered at the Inter-American Theosophical Federation Meeting at the national center of the Theosophical Society in America. Because there were Portuguese and Spanish translators present and many in the audience did not speak English, the pace of the lecture is somewhat more deliberate than usual. Includes handout. 1998. 54 minutes.
